Melissa is originally from the east coast and moved to Chicago to obtain her MFA in Acting at The Theatre School at DePaul University in 2004. Acting training led her to work with movement, biomechanics, and physical theatre. Melissa noticed that regular exercise not only assisted with greater strength and flexibility, but helped improve mental focus. She was amazed to experience how physical activity could relieve pain/discomfort from previous injuries and health conditions while also providing stress relief from a busy urban life.

After graduate school, Melissa began working in the fitness and wellness field as both a group fitness instructor and personal trainer. She is certified through the American Council on Exercise and loves to help others achieve goals through movement and body awareness. She is a member and Assistant Coach at CrossFit Chicago – Lincoln Park, instructs various cardio- and strength-based group exercise classes (cycling, boot camp, weight training), and works one-on-one with clients ranging in age from 18-70 at various gyms and health clubs throughout the city.

Melissa returned to regular yoga practice in 2009. She completed the 200-Hour Certified Yoga Teacher Training Program with ChiTown Shakti and has continued her study with additional training hours focusing on arm balances, advanced anatomy, and is registered with the Yoga Alliance. Yoga has provided Melissa with exciting physical and mental challenges, immense joy, and a sense of balance. She instructs yoga at traditional studios, corporate wellness centers, gyms, and for the Chicago Fire Department Academy.

As a Level 1 Certified CrossFit Trainer, Melissa recognizes that exercise should be varied, challenging, and fun. She enjoys working with people from all ages and backgrounds and delights in helping students on their personal journey with wellness. She is FMS certified and aims to inspire her clients to understand, accept, and appreciate their bodies and minds. Melissa was selected as a global finalist in the 2013 Life Fitness Personal Trainer to Watch Contest and now serves as the company’s Program Manager for Corporate Movement. In addition, she instructs and educates as a Master Trainer for Life Fitness Academy and the Chicago-based wellness collective, True2Life (co-founder).
